A word from the founder

IntelliTours grew from my wanderlust, a gift from my parents. On snowy nights in upstate New York, after the high school Christmas concert, they packed us kids, a Coleman stove and an old tent into the station wagon and headed south. We awoke the next morning to the exotic smell of warmth.

Years later, I became a roaming correspondent in the American West. My logo, "Rocky Mountain Ranger," was painted on the door of my Jeep! I searched for the Marlboro Man, lived in Yellowstone, rafted the entire Colorado River, climbed the Tetons, chased racist cross burners, cried in Indian sweats, absorbed radioactivity and howled with coyotes beneath a full moon.

In 20 years of western roaming, I logged one million words, 500,000 miles, 7,665 sunsets and went through 87 pairs of Levis. In 1997 I bought an old sailboat, named it "Ranger," and set out the see the rest of world. The winds blew me across the Atlantic — and to Montgomery, Alabama.

Please join me as the journey continues ...
